What if AI gets good enough at art that it puts the professional artist out of work?

(it's not looking that way now at least)

 

It probably won't happen, if anything it might make human artist more valuable.

 

And what if it became valuable in a novelty way, like how art made by an animal is valuable?

tl;dw: If the development of AI-generated content is in the middle or near the end of the exponential part of the "sigmoid curve", then it's not too bad and there's new tools, yet human work will still be needed. But if it's at the beginning of the curve, this world could become dreadfully unrecognizable down the road. Like how Napster changed the music industry.

What do you guys think about the future of AI? I don't think corporate dystopia/societal collapse/rogue AI apocolypse is inevitable, but there's no denying this is some pretty dangerous stuff we could be playing with.

At least we can say for certain that the next decade or so will be a very interesting time to be alive, if nothing else.

 

A lot of people who know very little about AI are afraid of it and this will probably continue for some time and they will spread misinformation about it which will probably do more harm then AI will ever do. AI is really great when used creativity but it has it's limitations and it has it's misuses. Lazy people will and more then likely already have used AI to write papers/articles/drawn drawings for them but I doubt these issues will be unsolvable (we could probably train an AI to spot AI generated text and images). I don't think AI will take any jobs especially creative types; if you're an artist who is afraid of AI either your art sucks or you lack the confidence that your art is worth other people's time.

 

If you make art for fun - that is you "don't quit your day job" so to speak - then who cares if AI is better?
